With the same determination, the Department of Commerce embarked on a journey in 1974 by setting up the Commerce Department with a B.Com. (honors) degree. The department expanded its horizons by adding PG in Commerce in 1983. The Commerce Department is the largest department of the College, with average annual student strength of more than 500. Admissions into both the UG and PG courses are done by the Government of Odisha through the Students’ Academic Management System (SAMS).The Bachelor of Commerce is a three-year study course in commerce subjects and will help the learner establish a career in Accounting, Finance Operations, Taxation, Management, and other related fields. This degree is the stepping stone and the best career option for further higher studies and professional degrees like M.Com, MBA, Company Secretary, Chartered Accountancy, Chartered Financial Analyst, Cost Accountancy, and many more. The Masters of commerce is a 2 years postgraduate course for candidates who want to pursue a career in accounting, banking, investment, financial service, investment, marketing, economics, and many more. M.Com course allows the students to work in almost all sectors of the business and economy and remains one of the most versatile courses in recent times. It also serves the purpose of research and teaching in business studies. Candidates who are specifically interested in becoming teachers, lecturers, and professors and pursuing higher education (Ph.D) usually go for this as a preparatory course. The department is constantly striving to offer relevant and updated courses with practical dimensions to provide a dynamic business environment with well-equipped personnel. The department has adequate well qualified, competent faculty who are dedicated to the academic and overall development of the student community.
