PG Department of Chemistry, Dhenkanal Autonomous College, organized an inaugural seminar on 7th October 2023. Famous Scientist... Da. Chittaranjan Mishra was invited as the Chief Guest & he pointed out that this 21 Ceatury is going to be the Century Science and Technology. In addition to this, Dr. Mishra had thrown light on the future development of India and laid blue print of its future. Dr. Ranjit Kumar Pradhan, Principal of Dhenkanal Autonomous College, Dhenkanal presided over the meeting. He also highlighted on development & progress of India. The welcome speech was given Dr. Debasis Mohanty, HOD of PG Department of Chemistry. Introduction of Guest was given by Mrs. Sujata Kumari Behera & Dr. Niladri Bihari Debata presented the theme of the seminar. On this eve the Wall magazine AROMA was inaugurated. In this occasion, the newly appointed faculties viz. Dr. Suprara Maharana, Dr. Niladri Bihari Debata & Mrs Sasmita Sahoo were felicitated. Vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Sasmita Sahoo. Other faculties of the department viz P. K. Sahoo, Pabitra Behera, D. M. Sahoo, S. Khuntia, S.K. Behera, Pritam Jena, S. R. Kar, P. K. Behera were present. In this Seminar students of both PG & UG were also present. Staff members, P. K. Mohanty, S. K. Behera, Naim & students Ajanta, Saswat, Namita cooperated for the successful completion of Seminar.

Brain is a fascinating piece of organ which intricately regulates behavior through a complex interplay of neural processes and external influences. Neural circuits within specialized brain regions, ... such as the prefrontal cortex, limbic system, and suprachiasmatic nucleus governs emotional responses, cognitive behavior, social interactions and various biological rhythms with respect to the stimuli from external environment. The brain with the help of different hormones ensures optimal functioning and adaptation to the cyclical nature of the environment, ultimately influencing our health and well-being.

This webinar aims to provide a foundational understanding ... of crucial research area in field of neurobiology and chronobiology and ignite curiosity about the fascinating relationship between the brain and behavior. Summary: The webinar pamphlet was circulated in various social platforms and 270 registrations were received, out of which 100+ participated in the webinar on 01.05.2024 at 9:00 am. The participants were mainly faculties and students from various colleges and universities at both state and national level. The live session of the webinar was also projected by the faculties to the students in different colleges of Odisha. The programme began with the Welcome Note by Dr. Nirlipta Swain, Convener of the Webinar and Head of Department, Department of Zoology, followed by Inaugural Address by Esteemed Principal Dr. Chittaranjan Sahu, Dhenkanal Autonomous College, Dhenkanal. Administrative Bursar Dr. Debasis Mohanty and Accounts Bursar Dr. Debaraj Parida then addressed the session. The first talk was delivered by Dr. Ch Vinod on “Neuroscience behind the clocks of life” and the session was moderated by Mrs. Kanakalata Soren (Organizing Secretary of the programme). The talk focussed on understanding the neurochemical control of circadian rhythms and their disruptions, which would lead to sleep disorders, jet lag, and even contribute to health problems. The second talk was delivered by Dr. Kowshik Kukkemane on “ From mice to minds: Decoding the neural basis of behavior” and the session was moderated by Dr. Bhagyashree Panda (Coordinator of the programme). The talk unravelled the complex link between brain and behavior and use of rodent models to understand the neural underpinnings of human neuropsychiatric disorders. Each talk was followed by an interactive Question and Answer session. The webinar concluded by Thank you note by Ms. Minurani Dalai, Co-convener of the programme. The webinar was successfully managed by Ms. Chitranjali Jena of Department of Zoology. After completion of the programme, Feedback form was circulated among the participants and E-certificates were provided to them. Outcome: The knowledge gained in the webinar would be highly innovative, profound and meticulous to teach and study Neurobiology, animal Behaviour and Chronobiology papers of UG and PG students of Zoology. The talks in the webinar covered the following topics: chronobiology, behavioural patterns, associated learning, classical and operant conditioning, adaptive significance of biological clocks, sleep patterns and neuropsychiatric disorders. Moreover, the interaction of the attendees with the resource person were highly beneficial for them for their professional and academic growth. "
